Oh my we are all so tired!
Hot Air Balloon filled with Windsor ladies!
Hello Everyone!
Whoops! We couldn't handle the height of the balloon trip!
Members of the Woman's Club attended the 2024 GFWC Convention in Harrisonburg, VA. One of the two cars driven was loaded with lots of supplies for HOBY and diapers and wipes for Advocates for Children. We had a great time together. Sometimes after long hours we would get a little silly with our pictures plus lots of laughing! It was so great to see federation friends from across the state. I met a couple of ladies from Waynesboro that were delightful. We had great speakers. New officers were installed. Looking forward to the next couple years.
The Woman's Club of Windsor members placed a display this morning in the Town of Windsor to bring awareness of Child Abuse. A big thanks to Jim Anderson for being the muscle to get the post in the ground!
Members of the Sunshine Committee of the Woman’s Club of Windsor put together bags of treats and Easter candy for the honorary and shut-in members of the club. The bags were delivered to these members so they would know they are thought of, loved, and remembered by the club.

Thank you to the many club members who baked cookies for the Western Tidewater Free Clinic to thank the many doctors in our area who support the work of the clinic. Club members bake the cookies and place them in zip lock bags. The committee decorated gift bags and the bags of cookies are placed into these and delivered by members of the clinic staff to the doctors in honor of Doctor’s Day.
Pictured are: Sandra Quillin, chairman of this committee, Mary Lee Willis and Karen Beale, club members, and Jessica Rockwell, Volunteer Coordinator at the clinic.
The Woman’s Club of Windsor was pleased with the Student Art Show on Friday, March 22, 2024 at the Windsor Community House. The cooperation of the art teachers at Carrsville Elementary School, Windsor Elementary School, Georgie D. Tyler Middle School, Windsor High School and Isle of Wight Academy is appreciated and we were so happy with the number of students, parents and grandparents who attended this event!

The Woman's Club of Windsor, Inc. was organized in May 1930 and has been a huge part of "Team Windsor" since that time. We have received the support of the residents, the businesses, other clubs in town, and the Town of Windsor since the beginning.
Recently the Windsor High School Class of 1967 held a reunion at the Windsor Community House with the Woman's Club assisting with preparation of their meal. Individuals in the class donated $700 to our club.
At the February club meeting we voted to present a new scholarship to a female senior who will be attending a trade school, in the amount of $700. This is in addition to the two scholarships we already make available to students graduating from Windsor High School who will be entering a four-year college.
Applications for all three scholarships will soon be available in the Guidance Office at WHS
We also sponsor two girls to attend Girl's State. One from Windsor High School and one from Isle of Wight Academy, as well as one student to attend HOBY (Hugh O'Brien Youth Leadership class). We assist the Windsor Ruritan Club with cleaning and maintenance of the Community House, and support the Art Departments at Carrsville Elementary School, Windsor Elementary School, Georgie D. Tyler Middle School, and Windsor High School.
We recently held our biggest fundraiser of the year, where 162 Boston Butts were sold, cooked, and distributed, with the help of three husbands, several members of the Windsor Ruritan Club, as well as many club members. Members also prepared baked beans and coleslaw which was also available for purchase.
One of our newest projects is implementing the use of Pokemon-Go to make everyone aware of several historical and fun locations in the area. And if you haven't seen the newest frog in town, stop by the Windsor Community and take a look at SPIRIT, provided by the Windsor Ruritan Club and the Woman's Club, with the help of Dewitt Holland, who painted the frog. The S.P.I.R.I.T frog is a Pokestop. Now people can see it on a virtual map and when the person walks close enough to it they will be able to spin the frog picture and read the history written about it. See the picture to the right regarding this newest project.
The Civic Engagement and Outreach Committee of The Woman’s Club of Windsor Inc. has completed their new and exciting project “Painting the Town and Preserving and Making History.” The committee’s vision was to repaint the signs on the old brick building that is adjacent to the railroad track.
It is the only sign in Windsor that dates back to the early 1900’s. The first panel of the building represents Ballard and Ballard Company which was a feed company, the panel shows a picture of a bag of chicken feed. The second panel shows R. A. Rhodes, General Merchandise. A company that existed in the early 1900’s that also served as a meeting place for the Town Council. The third panel represents Ballard's Insurance and Feed. The fourth panel has been developed into something very special for the town. We coordinated the panel with the Town’s Economic Development Authority’s Landmark Frog Project. The EDA is planning to erect frog sculptures throughout town, very similar to the pig sculptures in Smithfield. Many people don’t know, but Windsor was referred to by its earliest residents as “Frog Level” due to the many small frogs that were indigenous to the wet soil in our town. Therefore, we included a frog in our fourth panel as well as a LOVE sign.
We are also pleased to announce that muralist Sam Welty has once again honored Windsor with his artwork. He is the same muralist that painted the murals on the building beside Windsor Hardware with the local Girl Scout troop.
The murals are complete and we would like to thank the many businesses in Windsor and Suffolk who supported our project. Their tremendous support is appreciated. Without their help we would not have been able to sponsor the project.
We are also appreciative of the help from the Town of Windsor manager and staff, the Windsor Police Department, and the owners and staff of Windsor Hardware. It has been a fun project, made more so by the talent of Muralist Sam Welty and his diligence to work through several days of cold and windy weather.
We also thank everyone who donated to the project. Anyone who donated $1000 or more has their name listed on the panel.
From the history of the Town of Windsor, R. A. Rhodes, owner of R. A. Rhodes General Merchandise, was the first owner of the store and, through this project we have learned that there are still many of his relatives in the area. We think the first three sections were painted during his ownership.
Thank you, Windsor!
